Indian community leader says false rumors fuelling student protests in Sydney

Sydney: Indian community leaders have said that mischievous elements are circulating false rumors of racial attacks in Sydney. Residents of the western Sydney suburb of Harris Park said they would lock themselves inside tonight over fears of another protest. Community leader Yadu Singh urged the organisers of the proposed protest to reveal their identities and come forward. "Mischievous elements are spreading rumors through text messages which are wrong, this is a crime. This should not be allowed. Holding rally in the night is not the way to go, they have to stop this. It will not help them or the Indian community. Nobody knows who the leaders are because they are not coming out saying 'I am the leader, there is no leader there," Dr Singh said. "This will harm everybody. This will harm them,'' The Daily Telegraph quoted Singh, as saying. In the wake of the second protest, the Public Order and Riot Squad patrolled the tiny town centre today.
